The government has re-stated its plans to have a free vote on repealing the 2004 Hunting Act, which means it could once again become legal to hunt wild animals with dogs in England and Wales.
The reintroduction of hunting would mean terrifying and painful deaths – not just foxes, but deer and hares, too. Yet why should this concern Christians? It matters because we follow the one who is not merely the creator of all things (John 1:3), but also the one who died to “reconcile all things to Himself” (Colossians 1:20).
As our reconciler, Christ does not affirm the world as it is, but rather subverts notions of “hunter” and “prey”, transforming the relationships between all life forms through His victory over all violence and death.
Repealing the Hunting Act would be to go against the promise of the peaceable Kingdom Come which Christ died to realise and so plunge creation further into the darkness from which the Christian hope is that we shall, human and animal, be liberated.
The Sarx team will be writing to all Christian MPs to speak out about this matter of divine justice.
We urge you to join us and contact your newly elected MP today to let them know your strength of feeling on this issue.
