Challenging perceptions and questioning how our actions and choices affect the lives of animals was an important aspect of the Creature Conference.
One of the most pressing animal concerns facing us today is that of intensively reared farmed animals. Yet giving honest consideration to a critical issue, so often hidden from public view, can be difficult from within a modern, comfortable auditorium. So, in partnership with our friends at Animal Equality, the practices that take place inside factory farms and slaughterhouses were brought to light through the pioneering iAnimal.
With the use of a virtual reality headset, iAnimal takes the viewer on a unique journey chronicling the daily suffering of a mother pig who experiences the extreme confinement of farrowing crates, the loss of her piglets, and finally, her terrible death. A moving and powerful experience, iAnimal underlined the urgency of why Christians should regard the food we choose to buy, as a prime faith issue.
One conference attendee commented:
I have tried cutting back on animal products for many years but have often found it too much effort. Having seen this video, I now realise how pathetic all my excuses were and I am determined to go vegan immediately. My other Christian friends need to see iAnimal and see it now!
It has been a pleasure partnering with our friends at Animal Equality and we are encouraged that they too enjoyed and benefitted from exhibiting at the Creature Conference:
I found the Sarx event an inspiration, with a cross section of speakers, visitors and volunteers all interested in our iAnimal outreach and its relevance to Sarx’s aims to create a better world for our farmed animals. I enjoyed the day, which was very well organised, and the vegan food options on offer were delicious!
